Sarah Petite has been painting professionally for over thirty years, having received art training at NSCAD University and at the University of East Anglia in England.
Encaustic (beeswax-based) paint has been Petite's twenty-five-year grand experiment. Abstraction now allows her free rein to explore all its virtuosity, but abstraction first had to be learned. This was done with the ‘Game Theory’ paintings of 2010 to 2013, which likened the progress of an abstract painting to a game of chess or backgammon. Strategy is essential, and the lessons of the imaginary games have continued to instruct paintings that have sprung from this fertile ground.
Sarah Petite divides her time between Fredericton, New Brunswick, and Port Maitland, Nova Scotia, on the Fundy shore. Both locations have well-equipped studios for an ongoing and eager practice.
