Marie Claprood
Marie Claprood was born in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec in 1969. Her works, inspired by nature and objects, suggest a duality between the figurative and the abstract, between the textures of paint and the linear of a drawing, between the past and the present. Her artistic approach oscillates around the possibilities offered by textures created in painting, at the same time integrating collages and objects to work their suggestive power.
As years went by, various objects embellished her works. Some attracted her more than others, enough to make her want to creates a series. These are represented more or less accurately or simply integrated in the paintings.
Often appearing in a recurrent manner in the past years, the present series explores an everyday object, that is to say a recipient, whether it is a vase, urn, bowl, basket or nest.
Marie received a Bachelor in Visual Arts in 1996 from the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) Quebec.
